Marginalia captures the value we add to books by using and loving them. A charcoal book jacket forces the viewer to dirty their hands and a poem, blind debossed into the pages, reveals itself as the charcoal fingerprints darkens the paper around it. Artifacts of the viewer create the design itself, adding meaning to the book. The table of contents lists “Marginalia” (p. 1-59), referring, on three levels, to the poem title, the only visibly printed contents of the book, and the marks left in the margins by the viewer.
